The Hills of Rome

(With the kids taking a long nap today, I'm able to do a few postings. Here's another one I've been wanting to include).

Once upon a time (2,700 years ago when it was founded), Rome was a city of seven hills near the banks of the Tiber River. The hills are the Capitoline, the Quirinal, Viminal, Palatine, Aventine, Celian and Esquiline. In the early years of Rome, shepherds and farmers lived on the hills on the outskirts of the city, but as the years passed, huts were built in the areas in between the hills and some of the valley areas were filled in as the sewers were built under the city.

When you are walking in Rome, it is sometimes hard to forget these hill exist. That is, until you get to the top of one of them or find yourself staring up at a large hill that you need to hike up in order to get to your destination. Nonetheless, when you do arrive at wherever it is you are going, you find that the hills present you the opportunity get an amazing perspective on the city. Here are a few of the photos from some of our stops on these hills.
