Today was a great day. And despite the fact that we still have not adjusted to the time difference - which meant we weren't up and out of the apartment until 12:30 - we still managed to cover a lot of ground. The afternoon started with a visit to the Pantheon so CJ could do some sketching for his first class on Monday. After some pizza on the steps outside the Pantheon, the kids used the time to burn off some energy. First, they chased bubbles - being sold by a street vendor. Then they greated the horses, who were milling about waiting for customers. Then they played their favorite game - tag between the steps of the Pantheon and one of the side doors. This lasted for a good 20 minutes. We did go inside the Pantheon - though only briefly because observing a quiet respectful tone is quite hard.

After CJ finished his sketching, we enjoyed a fantastic cappucino in one of the cafes just off the Pantheon. After a quick stop at CJ's studio, we headed toward Trevi Fountain which impressed us all. We ended the afternoon with a visit to the Spanish Steps at dusk. The kids liked the fountain shaped like a "pirate ship" (according to Celia) in front of the steps. (I'd put the pictures up but they were too dark. Don't worry...we'll go back). Finally, we left by way of a stroll down one of Rome's designer shopping streets - Via Condotti - and enjoyed a lot of high end window shopping. (Definitely a street to return to, even if only to window shop!)
Tonight's dinner conversation... Our favorite part of the day:
Mine was the Trevi Fountain.
Celia's was the gelato, the pirate ship, the horse...
CJ's was the first cappucino of our visit and being with the family to appreciate Rome. (Specifically the ether of the Roman nightlife).
Augustine's was at first the bulldozer (that he claimed we saw but we didn't!) but then he settled on the pirate ship too.

What great explorers you are, Celia and Augustine! Love, Nana and Pop
