We've definitely seen our fair share of rain this past month. But on two occasions yesterday the rain turned from the usual wet drizzle or hard shower to hail and sleet. And this lasted long enough that the ground began to get covered in the white stuff (which fortunately quickly melted). It was quite a sight. And combined with the cold that brought it on, it made for a climate we weren't dying to run out into.

Fortunately for us, the weather did break in the mid-afternoon and the sun came it. It was still cold, but not wanting to be trapped in doors anymore we ventured out. We were rewarded for it.

The storm had cleared the skies temporarily and from a few vantage points that are only about a 5 - 10 minute walk from our apartment, we were able to see clear views of the city and even out to the mountains beyond. I quickly snapped a few photos during the 20 minutes or so that it was clear. (After that the clouds rolled back in and the mountains were gone). Still it was pretty amazing to see the snow caps so clearly in the distance. And we even saw a rainbow!

We spent the remainder of the afternoon walking around and trying to duck in and out of buildings to get out of the cold. In the end, the kids still ended up crying because their feet and hands were cold. (Was that from the temp outside or the fact that I had caved to their cries for ice cream? Who knows.) But we had a beautiful sight at dusk as we crossed back into Trastevere and looked over at Saint Peter's. (The battery on my camera had died so I couldn't focus. But you get the gist of it.)

So far the sun is out today, so we are hoping for a little warmer weather today. We'll see...
