Getting Creative when Teaching the Alphabet...

Despite Celia's love of preschool pre-Rome, she's much preferred to play with her brother or go to any number of places outside than do any kind of school lesson. As a result, we've had to become creative when it comes to getting her to sit and focus on learning her letters, reading, and writing.

We've found that she loves the computer, and will happily do anything educational on it. This was a good discovery. One activity she enjoys is to type e-mail messages to her friends (via their parents e-mail) or her aunts/uncle or grandparents. Generally this involves me or CJ writing out what she wants to say, and then she finds the letters and types the note.

As she was doing this moments ago, she was listening to CJ's iTunes on the computer via headphones. She was happily typing away when all of a sudden I heard laughter coming from the couch. (I was in the kitchen washing dishes). The music had switched from Beyonce (her request) to a Bill Cosby standup routine. And she thought this was hysterical because the bit he was doing about his son, entitled "kill the boy" talked about his son's haircut and it reminded her of Augustine cutting his hair by himself. It was quite a scene... Celia typing away, listening to comedy through the headphones oblivious to the world around her. What do you think we have in store in 10 years?
